So, for my photo class, we were assigned this project where we were instructed to ‘get lost’ somewhere, essentially just go without a destination and see where you end up. (warning, long/boring post + two year old photos, beware)

Well I had plenty opportunity to do that last week and just..didn’t xP My project is due tomorrow, so I tried to crappily attempt it today, with little success. My friends were kind enough to try to help me, and we went down into some boring canyon to try to see what we could find, but it quickly became WAY too hot and we had to leave. I basically gave up at that point, and realized I would just have to fake it for this project. I decided i’d have to use old photos. It took a while for me find which group of pictures to use but I finally found the perfect ones:

My trip to Big Bear from two years ago! It was in July, so it’s the right month, the pictures were taken on the same Canon that I have (just not mine lol) and we technically explored a place we had never been before, so that counts, plus, there are a lot of great shots from there that I really like and wouldn’t mind printing. Oh and there’s 500 pictures which is good, because I need at least 72 for a contact sheet. Also, they were shot on auto mode (blasphemy in the world of photography) which in my case is a plus because it looks like I took the time sit there and fucking change the aperture and shutter speed for every shot, which is what we’re supposed to be doing so that they come out looking properly exposed. We are supposed to shoot in RAW format, but i’ll just say I had to shoot in JPEG because I only brought one SD card (RAW is a huge format). The only problem is that my hair is COMPLETELY different, I have front bangs and it’s pretty long xP so I guess I just won’t include any shots of myself, which makes sense since they would’ve been taken by someone else anyway..also I’m hoping he isn’t going to check the metadata for the pictures, because if he does he’ll see that they’re two years old >< but i’m going to risk it!

I find it really interesting that there are so many good shots in here, because even though in two years I think i’ve learned a lot about photography, I think sometimes too much knowledge can stifle things. You can tell that in a lot of the shots I wasn’t thinking about it or trying too hard, basically just capturing anything I found interesting, and sometimes just snapping to snap. Even though I’d say i’ve improved in two years, a lot of the shots (the ones of me obvs weren’t taken by me haha) are actually pretty good, because they are just natural and candid, and you can see that I wasn’t standing around trying to make them perfect (well that’s because the camera did it for me><) Maybe it’s also because I was having lots of fun and seeing tons of interesting stuff, so I was inspired :P regardless, I look back fondly on these memories, and scrolling through these makes me happy. I kinda miss the days when I would just snap without thinking too much, in a way, it sometimes produced more interesting stuff. I think now i’m too self conscious, I think, if i’m taking a picture of it, it has to be interesting, it has to be artistic, it has to be good. That’s a dumbass way of thinking and I need to get over it. Anyway, hopefully I can convince my teacher I took these this month!
